Topics Education Principal to Speak to State Treasurers about Financial Education Advocacy
CHARLOTTE, NC – Bruce Nofsinger, Principal at Topics Education and leader of the firm’s Financial Education practice area will hold a breakout session with Jennifer Cohen, Chief of Staff for North Carolina Treasurer Richard Moore, at the National Association of State Treasurers’ (NAST) Treasury Management Conference in Dallas on December 9th. The session, titled “Activating Advocacy: Using Your Office to Spur Greater Emphasis on Financial Education,” will offer insights into engaging state agencies and corporate partners to impact financial education efforts. Nofsinger and Cohen will speak from their experience in working together to survey 7th grade students across North Carolina and then using the results to draw attention among key stakeholders to the need to foster financial literacy among youth.
“The economic crisis is a national teachable moment on the importance of financial education,” says Nofsinger. “State treasurers’ offices should be leading advocates for strengthening their states’ financial education efforts.”
Nofsinger has designed education outreach campaigns and acted as an advisor to marketing and public affairs managers with some of America’s most recognized financial institutions. In October, he led the New England Youth Financial Education Forum at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston which brought together established stakeholders in Financial Education from each New England state to share insights and learn from one another in an effort to move forward the conversation and promote action around financial literacy.
